Detta bidrog till att många expeditioner gick iväg i hopp om att få äran att vara först, att får svar på vad som finns på denna mystiska plats och förhoppningsvis ekonomisk vinning. Att bli en hjälte. Den här boken tar upp ett flertal expeditioner som skedde under den här tiden men fokuserar främst på S.A. Andrées polarexpedition. Jag har hört många som inte uppskattade den här boken just för att Wilkinson inte tog upp tillräckligt mycket fakta om Andrée. Men jag uppskattade den allmänna faktan om den här tidsperioden, de andra polarexpeditionerna som utfördes och hur de påverkade varandra. Jag tyckte det gav en bra helhet över den tidsanda och den värld de levde i då.
Men vill man läsa fakta om just Andrée och hans polarexpedition med luftballong finns det andra böcker att läsa som tar upp mer fokuserande fakta. Exempelvis Bea Uusmas bok ”Expeditionen: min kärlekshistoria.”
