Självbiografin om den colombianska konstnären Emma Reyes är uppbyggd av tjugotre brev som är skrivna mellan 1969 och 1997. Man får följa Emma och hennes syster Helenas liv från de första åren på gatan i Bogotá vidare till Guateque i inre Colombia för att så småningom hamna i nunnekloster där de levde större delen av sin uppväxt. Det förvånade mig lite att nunneklostret innebar så mycket hårt arbete och en hård och sträng uppfostran. Jag hade gärna läst vidare om hur detta påverkade Emmas liv efter klostervistelsen.
