Detta var en väldigt mysig bok att läsa och som fick mig att bli väldigt sugen på att skriva brev... Jag visste inte riktigt vad jag skulle förvänta mig av boken men den innehöll lite av varje, dels en spännande historia kring jungfrufödseln (eller var det inte en junfrufödsel?), en kärlekshistoria och känslan av att få se ljuset i tunneln när man känner att allt är hopplöst. Rekommenderar dig verkligen att läsa den.
Det är 1957 och Jean jobbar på en lokaltidning utanför London och när det kommer ett brev från en kvinna, Gretchen, som påstår sig ha blivit gravid utan att ens kysst en man blir det Jean som får i uppgift att skriva reportaget. Jean som vanligtvis mest får skriva om hushållstips och veckans bröllop blir fascinerad av den märkliga historien och det dröjer inte länge innan Jean charmas av hela Gretchens familj.
Små glädjeämnen är den brittiska författaren Clare Chambers första roman på tio år och det är en bra och charmig berättelse med en lågmäld humor. Att boken utspelar sig i England på 1950-talet ger en extra mysfaktor till berättelsen, som även innehåller en del mörker. Det här är en riktig pärla som jag verkligen rekommenderar.
