As a work of art, it transcends all aspects of the atonement; and in our view, the book's moral impact on the serious readers is more important than the scientific and literary values, because in this profound personal study, there is a universal lesson implying from it; a willful child, a selfish mother, a panting madman--these characters are not only lifelike characters in a unique story; they remind us of the dangerous tendencies; they point out the evil that has a strong influence. Lolita should make us all--parents, social workers, educators should be with greater vigilance and vision and cultivate more excellent people for a safer world.
